The High Court has sentenced Jaison Muvevi of Ruzane Village in Wedza to four life imprisonment terms and an additional 40 years in prison after finding him guilty on four counts of murder and attempted murder in a case that shocked the nation.

The judgment brings to a close a tragic chapter marked by the loss of innocent lives and immense suffering for the victims’ families and the wider Wedza community.

According to court proceedings, Muvevi was convicted for the brutal killings of four people and for attempting to take the lives of others during the violent incident.

The court found the offences to be of an exceptionally serious nature, warranting the harshest punishment available under the law.

In delivering sentence, the High Court emphasised the gravity of the crimes, the devastating impact on the affected families, and the need to protect society from such violent conduct.

The court further noted that the murders had deprived families of their loved ones and left lasting emotional scars on survivors and community members.

The sentence of four life terms means Muvevi will serve a life sentence for each of the murder convictions, while the additional 40-year custodial sentence relates to the attempted murder charges.

Residents of Wedza have expressed mixed emotions following the ruling, with many describing the judgment as a measure of justice for the victims whose lives were tragically cut short.

Community leaders said the verdict sends a strong message against violent crime and reinforces the principle that perpetrators of serious offences will be held accountable.

The case has drawn significant public attention due to the horrific nature of the crimes and the profound impact they had on families in Ruzane Village and surrounding areas.
