NetOne’s mobile financial services platform, OneMoney, is accelerating financial inclusion across Zimbabwe by expanding access to digital financial services, creating employment opportunities and making money transfers and everyday transactions more convenient through an extensive and integrated distribution network.

At the centre of this growth is a broad partnership model linking mobile money with traditional banking infrastructure to ensure services reach communities across the country.

Working with six banking institutions AFC Commercial Bank, POSB, NBS Bank, BancABC, FBC Bank, and Crown Bank OneMoney has introduced seamless Bank-to-Wallet and Wallet-to-Bank integration, allowing customers to move funds easily between bank accounts and mobile wallets.

The strength of the platform lies not only in digital capability but also in its physical footprint. POSB contributes 45 branches located across all provinces, while AFC Commercial Bank adds another 34 branches positioned in growth points and agricultural communities.

Together, the institutions provide 79 branch locations supporting access to digital financial services.Additional support comes through branch-based account linking services offered by NBS Bank and POSB, enabling customers without smartphones or internet access to participate in the digital financial ecosystem.

Beyond bank branches, OneMoney has expanded accessibility through hundreds of Point-of-Sale (POS) machines installed at retail outlets and service centres nationwide.

Customers are now able to make direct wallet payments while NetOne shops across districts provide access to deposits, school fee payments, and selected financial services closer to communities.

This broad distribution structure is reducing barriers to financial access. Customers in urban centres, growth points, and rural areas can increasingly access services without travelling long distances to banking halls.

The growing network is also generating employment opportunities. Additional transaction support personnel and financial service agents are being engaged to support operations across branches and service points.

Agents operating under POSB, AFC, and independent OneMoney structures earn commissions through cash-in, cash-out, bill payments, and transfer services.

With agent interoperability now operational, POSB and AFC agents are able to process OneMoney transactions, while OneMoney agents provide access to selected POSB and AFC services expanding reach and increasing economic opportunities.

“This initiative is not just about transactions it’s about empowering communities,” said Ms Tracy Madziwa, Head of Sales and Marketing at OneMoney.

“Every branch we connect, every agent we onboard, is a local job creator. Our intense distribution network ensures that no Zimbabwean walks more than a few kilometres to access formal financial services, while also earning a living by offering those services.”

The improved accessibility is also transforming the ease of doing business for informal traders, farmers, and small enterprises. Customers can receive payments directly into their wallets, transfer funds instantly, settle bills digitally, and reduce dependency on cash.

Parents can pay school fees from mobile devices, traders can transact with suppliers efficiently and rural families can receive remittances through nearby service points without extensive travel.

Joseph Machiva, General Manager for NetOne Financial Services and Acting Chief Commercial Officer of NetOne, said: “Our mission is clear: financial inclusion for all. By combining the credibility of banks with the agility of mobile money and backing it with 79 bank branches, hundreds of agents and NetOne’s own retail footprint we are removing traditional barriers to banking. And as this ecosystem grows, so do opportunities for employment.”

Instant transfer capability continues to improve convenience for customers by enabling quick movement of funds between participating banks and OneMoney wallets, with both funding and withdrawal options available across multiple access points.

Edmore Makanha, Head of Operations at NetOne Financial Services, added: “With Bank-to-Wallet and our dense distribution channels, customers no longer need to queue at banking halls or travel long distances.

They can fund wallets instantly from home and withdraw or deposit cash at a point within walking distance. That ease of doing business whether for a parent, a farmer, or a small retailer is what drives real economic participation.”

To maintain uninterrupted service delivery, OneMoney has implemented a float rebalancing framework with POSB and AFC operating as Super Agents, helping ensure liquidity across distribution channels even during periods of high demand.

As adoption continues to grow, OneMoney plans to onboard additional banking partners and further expand its agent network, strengthening financial inclusion and creating more economic opportunities across Zimbabwe.
