Teen Rescue Mission (TRM) is increasingly demonstrating that empowering young people with practical skills, education and opportunities can transform communities and shape a safer, brighter future.

The organisation’s recent programmes have continued to move beyond awareness campaigns, placing young people at the centre of skills development, mentorship, empowerment and community service.

In June 2026, TRM intensified its practical skills development programmes, including dressmaking training at the TRM Chigovanyika Youth Centre, equipping young people with skills that can translate into income-generating opportunities.

The organisation has also continued its youth-focused advocacy against drugs, early pregnancy and crime, while promoting positive choices and responsible citizenship.

On 14 June, TRM Director Dr. Abraham Matuka engaged Miss World Zimbabwe Brunette Makanyiso, further highlighting the organisation’s commitment to inspiring young people and creating platforms that encourage them to pursue their potential.

The momentum continued in early August, when TRM held a graduation ceremony for young people who had completed training in baking, catering, dressmaking, hairdressing and welding.

The graduation was a demonstration that youth empowerment becomes meaningful when young people are equipped with practical skills that can open doors to employment and entrepreneurship.

On 15 August, TRM recorded another significant milestone when its Youth Catering Team secured an opportunity to provide catering services at a wedding in Mazowe.

The young team successfully prepared and served meals to more than 450 guests, proving that skills development can quickly translate into real-world opportunities.

The achievement is more than a catering assignment. It is evidence that young people, when given training, trust and an opportunity to work, can deliver professionally and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

The same day brought another proud moment for TRM at the University of Zimbabwe graduation ceremony, where more than 7000 students graduated.

TRM Director Dr. Abraham Matuka presented a shield in the degree of Criminology and Society and a floating trophy in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, both sponsored by Teen Rescue Mission, to outstanding graduates.

A female graduate emerged as the recipient of both awards, providing an inspiring example of what young women can achieve through determination, education and opportunity.

For TRM, the achievement also reinforces its commitment to promoting the empowerment of girls ahead of the International Day of the Girl Child in October.

From Skills to Sustainable Opportunities TRM’s growing impact is increasingly visible in the journey of the young people it serves from learning skills, to graduating, to applying those skills in real community settings.

Youth Catering Team is now inviting individuals, families, organisations and event planners to engage its services for weddings, parties, meetings and other functions.

This creates a practical pathway for young people to gain experience, build confidence and work towards sustainable livelihoods. TRM’s approach shows that youth empowerment is not simply about telling young people to avoid negative influences. It is about giving them something positive to pursue, skills to depend on and opportunities through which they can build their future.

As the organisation continues with its programmes, its message remains clear and increasingly relevant: No to drugs. No to early pregnancy. No to crime. And beyond the message is action training young people, creating opportunities, celebrating excellence and opening doors for the next generation.
