CHITUNGWIZA – Returning to the community that shaped her journey, Miss World Zimbabwe 2026, Brunette Makanyiso, delivered a powerful message of hope, discipline and self-belief during her visit to Teen Rescue Mission (TRM) Youth Centre to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Standing before young people rebuilding their lives after addiction, she reflected on her own upbringing in Chitungwiza and reminded them that difficult beginnings should never define their future.

“It gives me great joy to come back home and see young people choosing hope and transformation,” she said.

Her words touched many of the youths, some of whom admitted they had never imagined meeting someone who came from similar circumstances and rose to national recognition.

As a pharmacist by profession, Makanyiso also spoke from professional experience about the dangers of drug and substance abuse.

She urged young people to protect their dreams by making healthy and responsible choices.

“Drugs destroy lives and delay dreams. We are the future leaders and future parents, and we must safeguard our future,” she said.

The atmosphere became emotional as she listened to testimonies from recovering youths and later toured the vocational departments, engaging with students in poultry production, welding, dressmaking, hairdressing, baking and catering.

She praised their determination and expressed admiration for the practical skills helping transform lives.

TRM Director Dr Abraham Matuka thanked Miss World Zimbabwe for taking time to visit the centre and inspire vulnerable youths.

He described her presence as a powerful reminder that success is achievable regardless of one’s background.

Community members said the visit brought renewed energy and encouragement, with many youths leaving inspired and believing more strongly in their own potential.

For the young people at Teen Rescue Mission, Miss World Zimbabwe’s message carried a simple but powerful truth: their past does not determine their future.

The day ended with hope, smiles and renewed commitment from youths and community members to continue fighting drug abuse and building brighter futures.
