A Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) female officer has broken the glass ceiling in sport, proving that gender is no barrier to excellence after winning a silver medal at the 2026 National Heroes Darts Tournament held in Kadoma.

Correctional Officer Grade One Tadiwanashe Maboyi, representing Harare Metropolitan Province, secured second place in the Junior Ladies Singles category at the prestigious tournament.

Organised by the National Darts Association of Zimbabwe as part of the Heroes and Defence Forces celebrations, the tournament attracted 270 contestants from all ten provinces, providing a highly competitive platform for darts players across the country.

Remarkably, Maboyi achieved the feat after only five months of experience in the sport. Her impressive performance earned her a place in the Harare Province team following a highly competitive provincial selection process.

She went on to contribute to the team’s fourth-place finish among the ten participating provinces.

Maboyi received her silver medal from National Darts Association President Mr Rodwell Chidanhamabwe, marking a significant milestone in her young sporting career.

She dedicated the achievement to the ZPCS Commissioner General, Dr Moses Cyril Ngawaite Chihobvu, for creating opportunities that allow officers to pursue sporting talent alongside their professional duties.

“I am happy with the position I achieved. The journey was tough, but it was rewarding. I would also like to thank our Commissioner General, Dr Moses Cyril Ngawaite Chihobvu, for the opportunity and time given to officers to participate in sport. Today, I managed to realise my potential in darts,” Maboyi said.

Her achievement has been welcomed by ZPCS Management as a reflection of the Service’s commitment to gender equality, talent development and inclusive participation.

Maboyi’s success demonstrates that when women are given equal opportunities, support and platforms to showcase their abilities, they can break barriers and excel at the highest level.

Her silver medal is therefore more than a personal victory it is an inspiration to female officers and young women across the country that talent knows no gender, and opportunity can turn potential into excellence.
