Teen Rescue Mission (TRM) successfully commemorated the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with a prayer event held over the weekend in Harare’s city centre.

Young people from different communities gathered to pray against drug and substance abuse, a growing concern affecting many communities across Zimbabwe.

The event brought together pastors, corporate partners, community leaders, and youths in a united effort to promote hope, healing and positive change.

Renowned gospel artist Pastor Dudu Manhenga led a powerful session of worship and praise before encouraging young people to place their faith in God and believe in their ability to overcome the challenges associated with drug and substance abuse.

She urged the youths to remain steadfast, make positive life choices, and stay focused on building meaningful futures.Pastors from various ministries also led prayers and made declarations over the lives of young people, calling upon God to intervene and restore hope among the nation’s youth.

Fellow youths addressed the gathering, challenging their peers to reject drugs, remain focused, and pursue their dreams with determination.Speaking during the event, TRM PR Major Chirombe expressed appreciation for the strong turnout and highlighted the importance of addressing the growing drug problem through both community action and spiritual support.

“I am encouraged to see so many young people gathered here with hearts ready to pray. Drug and substance abuse continues to affect our communities and as an organisation we have been carrying out outreach programmes. However, seeing the increasing rates, we felt it was necessary to also address the spiritual aspect through prayer because this challenge goes beyond being just a social issue,” he said.

“The age of those becoming involved in drugs is particularly concerning. Today’s turnout gives us hope, and we pray to continue hosting such prayer gatherings and expanding them to other cities across Zimbabwe.”

Guest of Honour Ms Cynthia Muzira applauded the youths for choosing to seek God in confronting life’s challenges.

She encouraged them to believe in themselves, remain committed to their purpose, and understand that nothing is impossible through faith and perseverance.

Representing Ecolus Energy, Mr Madzonga thanked Teen Rescue Mission for organising the initiative and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to youth empowerment.

“As Ecolus Energy, we are proud to support this vision. We provide light to the nation through solar energy solutions, and we also want to bring light into the lives of young people by supporting programmes such as this. By investing in our youths today, we are building a brighter tomorrow,” he said.

The event was further enriched by an energetic music ministry led by worship leader Larry Gunda, whose inspiring performance brought youths together in praise and worship.

He encouraged young people to abstain from drugs, remain disciplined, and become positive influences within their communities.

As part of the event’s outreach activities, Teen Rescue Mission also distributed blankets to vulnerable young single mothers and youths living with disabilities to provide support during the cold season.Youths who attended praised TRM for creating a platform where they could come together in prayer and reflection.

Many expressed hope for more similar events in the future, saying they believe faith plays an important role in guiding and protecting their generation.

The successful event demonstrated the power of unity, faith, and community partnership in addressing one of Zimbabwe’s pressing challenges affecting young people today.
